The Bagua Map is used to apply Feng Shui principles in our homes or offices for placing personally meaningful objects associated with specific treasures in life, such as health, prosperity and love. The following are just examples of the kinds of items you can use to enhance your spaces. The first step is to ready your space by clearing it of negative energy.

Space Clearing

The most important part of feng shui is space clearing. Most experts agree space clearing will improve the quality of our lives more effectively than any other feng shui technique. It quickly cleanses our living or working environment of the negative energies that are responsible for many of the difficulties we experience from day to day.

Suggestions for space clearing:

• Thoroughly clean and organize the space as much as possible.

• Turn off televisions, radios, and as many electrical appliances as possible.

• Breathe deeply and fully to help become centered. Focus your mind on your intention to clear and energize your space.

• Place a clean burning candle in the entryway and in other key locations throughout the space.

• Walk through the space mentally noting any areas that feel blocked. The energy is easily felt. Try opening your arms and bringing your hands together slowly to feel the energy.

• Light a sage wand or incense to clear the air. Walk through the entire space, saturating the atmosphere with the cleansing smoke.

• Ring the tingsha bells at a slow steady rhythm while moving around the space. Move slowly and allow the sound of the bell to fully saturate the entire space.

• Refocus your attention to what your intention is for that space.

How Chi Flows

The next step is to consider how Chi flows. There are some physical aspects that may need to be considered at the outset.

• Doorways that are directly across from one another allow Chi to flow straight through the space. Some way to redirect the energy back into the room may be accomplished with screens, plants, mirrors, crystals, etc.

• Long hallways that dead end may block the flow of Chi. Consider ways to move the energy back out of an enclosed space through mirror, chimes, and/or crystals.

• General room configuration considerations:

Consider the placement of the furniture. If blocking, consider rearranging.

Arrange rugs to direct movement through the space.

Soften sharp corners with plants, crystals, chimes.

Place a plant in front of a window to slow the energy flowing out.

Are there any unused doors? If so, try placing a folding screen in front of it.

Once the space is cleared and the general configurations are considered, the next step is to locate the areas in your space that relate to the areas of your life you wish to enhance. Begin with laying out the space in relationship to the Baqua Map.

Bagua Map/Space Layout

• Sketch a floor plan of your house (or you can do one room at a time)

• Sketch the areas of the Bagua Map over the plan

Place the main entrance to your space in line with the bottom of the map.

Small sections may extend beyond the map for which special accommodations can be made

• Determine what specific life aspect(s) you wish to enhance.

• Determine what objects you may have or wish to have to place in the space that reflect that area of your life

• Place objects that have meaning to you so that your intention for enhancing that area of your life is personally significant

• Refer to the attached Baqua Map chart and consider the types of objects that have meaning relative to the specific areas on the map
